Airspace Classification
15–25% of testClasses A–G, controlled vs. uncontrolled, sectional charts, LAANC authorizations, TFRs, NOTAMs, special use airspace.

Core Rules to Memorize
These fundamental limits appear across the test. Know them cold.
Visual Line of Sight
Must maintain VLOS at all times — unaided (except corrective lenses). No FPV-only without a visual observer.
Maximum Altitude
400 ft AGL. Can fly up to 400 ft above a structure if within 400 ft horizontally of that structure.
Maximum Speed
100 mph groundspeed (87 knots).
Yield Right-of-Way
Drones must yield to all manned aircraft. No exceptions.
Alcohol Limit
No alcohol within 8 hours. BAC must be below 0.04%.
Night Operations
Allowed with anti-collision lights visible for 3+ statute miles. No waiver required (post-2021 rule).
Remote ID
Required for most operations. Exceptions: under 250g or in an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA).
Certificate Currency
Valid 24 calendar months. Recurrent training (free online) keeps it current — no re-test needed.
